The absurdity of it all is what makes it fun. Muscle cars and supercars.

Muslce cars and super cars are all the same really. I mean what's the point of them, to make you smile I hope. I realize some people buy them to show off or as a status symbol but really it's about having fun. I love super cars for the same reason I love muscle cars. They are absurd, impractical, and a little foolish, but that's kind of the point. Life is way too serious to not have that absurdity in it.

Today I was talking with friends about these new muscle cars that are out as we saw a silver Camaro roll by. No doubt the car looks absurd with it's jagged adgest, huge rims, and big V8, but that's kind of the point. It's no secret amoungst friends I love for a Plum Crazy Challenger, their reaction initially was "man purple is a gay color. " lol Maybe it is, but if you don't see a big purple muscle car and smile you aren't the kind of person I want to be friends with, was my reply. They all laughed and agreed. I love that Dodge is making colors like Furious Fuchsia, Plum Crazy, Sublime, and Detonator Yellow. They make the Challenger that with all those Mercedes underpinnings not so serious. Something which the car is in danger of being, it's a little big, it's a little too comfy, and there are too many luxuries, but with that V8 and a stupidly obnoxious color it hits the right spot. I just love em.

Then there are super cars. Their price is absurd for sure, but the great ones, they are part race car part ax murdered. Think back to your childhood, if you are around my age (nearly 30) I'll bet you had a Lamborghini Countach or a Ferrari Testarossa hanging on your wall. I did, I had both. Why? Not because they were expensive or fast, because they looked ridiculous with all those fins and slits, and wings, and fins with wings. They were awesome! I knew nothing about rich or poor when I was 7 I just knew what looks cool and those cars did it. Why because they were absurd.

Some modern super cars seem to have gotten too serious, The Ferrari 360 and 430, too serious. Great cars and a blast to drive, but they don't have that poster quality to them. The Zonda, oh yeah that's got it, and so does several Lambos. It seems with the 458 Ferrari is moving back towards having a personality again. Let's hope so. AMG Mercs I feel have it. They are 9 parts way too serious German Luxury car and one part insanity. It's great.

Really to me, that's what cars boil down to, do they make you smile. My Cobalt, it's orange and has a big stupid wing on it and you know what, that makes me smile. That's why I love it. I think that's how I choose the car guys I hang out with. I was talking to a RX 8 owner the other day and he was telling me why he bought his car and by the time he got to 50/50 weight distribution I had nodded off. I'd never hang out with that guy. He takes cars too serious. You know why I like the RX8, it's stupid. lol It's angular, and aggressive, and it has a motor that's not at all practical and all those things make it cool.

So anyway, here's to brightly painted, absurd looking, loud, obnoxious, impractical cars that the average person would never buy and to the people who drive them.
